Today, members of our SOLIDS Lab proudly represented the Software Engineering (SENG) program at the First-Year Engineering Information Fair. We showcased our projects- OceanEye, an innovative image analysis project that detects and counts marine life from underwater drone footage. This project is integrated with our underwater sensor suite for carbon sequestration research, aiming to contribute to marine ecosystem monitoring and environmental sustainability. It was great to see the young first year students so interested to know about Software Engineering program at UVic.
A huge shout out to our talented students who presented: Konrad Jasman, Arden Loewen, Rudra Pratap Singh, Min Gu Kim and Gaganjot Kaur—your dedication and expertise continue to push the boundaries of software engineering in ocean research!
Special thanks to Prof. Hausi Müller, Prof. Daniel German, Prof. Margaret-Anne Storey and Cassandra P. for their guidance and support. Grateful for the opportunity to highlight the impact of software engineering in solving real-world challenges.
